“Debbie, do I have to do video marketing?  I hate the way I look, I don’t even like my picture taken”  Well, my answer is going to be this.

YouTube is the 3rd largest visited website in the world.  It’s a search engine.  It’s a social media hangout.  It’s where the people are.  As a business owner, you should want to be where the people are.

Having a presence on YouTube is not about how you think you look or feel about your pictures. This is about serving others as a business owner and allowing yourself to be seen. You are your business. Otherwise, you’re like a brick and mortar store with the “closed” sign in the window.

Keywords are critical to any marketing, be it video, articles, blogging, doesn’t matter. You must know your target audience and know what they are searching for.

1)  After you log into your YouTube account, click on “My Videos”.
2) Find the new uploaded video and click on the “edit” button.
3)  Verify all the information, select your thumbnail that people will see displayed on your channel and then go down the list of options.

Make sure when you get to “comments” that you select “Approve Comments With Approval Only”.  Then you’ll be able to monitor what people can say about your content.

It’s great to have controversy.  That’s fine.  People are entitled to their thoughts and opinions.  But, you don’t want just plain negative comments from ugly people.  You’ll know the difference.

1)  Choose the video you want to embed
2) Click on the icon next to the embed code and box will open.
3) Uncheck “include related videos”
4) While you’re there, decide if you want a border and if so, check the box and chooseyour color.
5) Decide what size video dimensions you want and select.

Now you’re ready to copy and paste your embed code into your website or blog.

Video Editing

There are many video editing software programs.  They range in price from free to about $90 and many of their features are the same or similiar.

What video editing allows you to do is:

• Rearrange, mix or combine video, with timeline editing, you can drag & drop video clips or files to where you want them to be.
• Add titles, menus and text to your video creations. Many programs come with numerous menu and title templates and also let you add text effects.
• Add music, narration or sound effects.
• Add in photos and power points.

Windows Movie Maker is most common

Something to note is that most computers come with Windows Movie Maker already installed on it.  I didn’t realize I had it on mine until I began to do internet marketing and I had had my computer for 2 years.

There are several ways to create videos.  Here are video marketing tips for a few of the most used:

Head Shot Videos – (Not moving around)

Great lighting.

Outdoor natural lighting is best, but if that’s not what you want, then get some good lights.  I have an overhead light on the ceiling but then also I have a couple floor lamps that have 3 repositional stems that I can move around to shine where I want them.  I picked them up at Lowe’s for about $20 each.

Your Background.

Pay close attention to what you have behind you in the background.  It will say a lot about you and your success.  The worse kind of backgrounds are those where it’s obvious you are in a bedroom, a background that’s dirty and cluttered, a room with wild wallpaper, outdated drapes and colors, things like that.

If you have no place in your house that you can film with a decent background, go outside.  It works year round.

Get close to the camera.

Let people see the whites of your eyes.   Or at least from the chest up if you can.

Who’s on the Other End of the Camera?

I’m often asked who holds my camera for all my videos?

Answer:  Nobody.  I use a tripod.  Before I had a tripod, I used anything I could find to position the height of the camera.  A ladder, boxes, books, chairs, stacks of different things, whatever.

Moving Videos

Walking:

Simply hold your camera out in front of you.  If you don’t have a camera where you can get enough distance between your face and the camera and you’re not getting too much face, attach your camera to an object that you can hold out in front of you as you walk.  A lightweight piece of wood will do fine.

Driving:

First of all, pay attention to the road.  To capture your video while you’re driving, simply set your camera on your dashboard.  Record your video but watch the road, obviously.  Simple enough.

Power Points

Power point presentations are great visuals used to teach.  Pictures, animation, music, voice overs call all be incorporated.

Screen Capture *

Screen capture is also a great way to teach.  You can actually record your computer screen while you talk as if someone was sitting at your desk with you.

PIP – Picture In Picture

This refers to you recording you while you talk while at the same time recording your screen.  Your talking video can be places anywhere on the screen but out of the way from what you are teaching or sharing.

* You will need screen recording software for this.  Here are some options:

Camtasia by Techsmith.  You can generally find a 30 day free trial and then you’ll need to purchase it.  It run around $199.  If you have a student at home between the grades of K – 12, you can purchase it at www.AcademicSuperstore.com for half price. Documentation will need to be provided.

Camstudio is a free program and will certainly get the job done for those on a budget.

Tips On Setting the
Stage for Great Videos

Video plays a key role in the lineup of marketing strategies for today’s network marketer.  To put it in the simplest terms, video allows your audience to know, like and trust you about as fast as is possible.  Video marketing in business gives your customers and prospects an insight as to who you are, what you’re about, what your product is and helps in setting the stage for a lasting relationship.

There are a few video marketing tips that you’ll want to take into consideration as you prepare to do your videos.  As you practice, over time, your will improve and know how to do video marketing in fun and creative ways.  But your first assignment would be to get comfortable in front of the camera.  Make it your friend and it will make you a lot of money.

SETTING THE STAGE

1)  Great lighting.

3)  Make yourself presentable.

You just want to dress for the occassion.  No need to get dressed up, just dress for what’s appropriate.  Clean hair is good.

4)  Get close to the camera.

Let people see the whites of your eyes.   Or at least from the chest up if you can.

5)  Pay attention to sound.

You should be close enough that you come across loud and clear and no annoying noises in the background.  If you have a pet in the background barking, chirping or meowing, you may not be aware of it because you’re used to it but it will annoy the heck out of your viewer.

I’ve also done ocean front videos and weren’t able to use them because the sound of the water was too loud.  So if you have the opportunity for ocean front videos, be sure and do a sound test before you leave the area.

Wind can be a problem.  Wind is easily picked up on your sound card.  Again, do a sound check before you leave the area.

6)  Vary your backgrounds.

You don’t want all your videos in the same place all the time.  Have some where you’re walking, driving, outside, inside, on vacation, etc.

7)  Keep videos short and sweet.

If you have something longer than a few minutes to say, you may want to consider doing a 2 or 3 part series.  People suffer from ADD and unless you have killer content, holding their attention longer than a couple of minutes is tricky.

8)  Post your contact info.

Make sure you have your website and phone on your video.

9)  Be yourself.

Be comfortable.  Body language is loud.  One suggestion for getting comfortable in front of your camera is to carry it with you.  Make a video while you drive or walk because your audience understands if you’re doing these activities you must watch the road.  In this way, you don’t have to stare into the camera for 3 minutes while you talk.  Instead, you’ll be watching the road as you normally would and glancing at the camera as you would a friend as you talk.  Try it.

10) Use props.

People enjoy visuals.  Even if it’s a piece of paper with silly drawings.  It will keep their attention.
